Treatment Philosophy
I see psychotherapy as a creative process that people can invent and grow.
I am a clinical social worker licensed in the Sate of Colorado. My practice is
client-centered, focusing on integrating one's body and mind awareness. I am
trained in various treatment modalities including gestalt and EMDR (Eye Movement
Desensitization Reprocessing) I work well with clients who are interested in discovering
wellness as opposed to examining pathology. I believe that my clients will build their
resources and recover their natural ability to heal, given a safe and nurturing environment.
When working with children, I often use art and play since these are their primary languages.
Credentials and Experience
As a native of Hong Kong, I grew up in an environment where I juggled and learned to
appreciate values from both the eastern and western culture. I worked as a front-line
social worker for five years before I came to the United States. My first job was being
an outreach social worker for marginal youths at Hong Kong YWCA. Then I worked at Caritas
Family Services, involving out-patient family counseling and consulting with the middle
school population.
Between 1990 and 1992, I pursued master degree in social work at Washington University in
St. Louis, focusing on mental health and family therapy. Upon my graduation, I worked at
two psychiatric hospitals in New York and St. Louis. During these three years of psychiatric
hospital work, I became very skilled in assessment and crisis intervention. Meanwhile I became
increasingly aware of the limitations of medical labels and wanted to move beyond them. I shifted
from in-patient work to Provident Counseling in St. Louis and worked there for five years. Besides
working clinically with both adults and children, I was the supervisor for therapist interns. Later
I became the lead therapist in the VOCA (Victims of Child Abuse) for abused children and their
caregivers. I created the curriculum for group therapy and parent psycho-education.
In the summer of 2000, my family moved from St. Louis to Fort Collins. I took a sabbatical to take
care of my young children and volunteered at a co-op preschool. In 2002, I started my private practice.
Although some clients seek help because they want somebody to find out what is "wrong" with them, my
focus has remained in developing resources and recovering their natural ability to heal and create. By
providing a safe place, I encourage my clients to attend to their needs, practice mindfulness and be
aware of the choices they can make.
My Other Passions
Like many other parents, motherhood is central to my life. I am fortunate to have two wonderful
daughters who teach me how to be a better person each day. I enjoy my routine of running in fresh air
early in the morning, always awakening me to start of a beautiful day. Whenever I get around, I enjoy
finding my quiet time through painting on canvas. To be creative while fumbling with colors allow me to
tackle challenges in a new perspective.
